How to Fix a PDF That Opens Upside Down or Sideways

Why some PDFs open rotated

Two main causes:

1. The pages were scanned with the document fed in the wrong orientation
2. The PDF rotation was set in the file metadata but some viewers ignore it

The first cause is real (the page content is genuinely sideways). The second is a display quirk where one viewer shows the page rotated correctly and another shows it sideways.

The fix is the same in both cases: physically rotate the pages and save a new file that displays correctly in every viewer.

The fastest fix
