How to use it
- Drop your PDF into the upload area.
- Pick a number format: "1 of 5", "Page 1", or just "1".
- Choose where the number appears: top or bottom, left, center, or right.
- Adjust font size and margin if needed.
- Click Add page numbers and download the result.
Tips
- Skip numbering a cover page by splitting the PDF first, numbering the main body, then merging them back.
- Use "Start from" to continue numbering across multiple documents (e.g. start the second document at page 25).
- Bottom center is the most common placement for reports and essays.
Common questions
Does this upload my PDF to a server?
No. Page numbering runs entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
Can I start numbering from a page other than 1?
Yes. Change the "Start from" field to any number you want. Useful when the first few pages are a cover or table of contents that you do not want numbered.
What number formats are available?
Three options: "1 of 5" (current of total), "Page 1" (the word Page plus the number), and plain "1" (number only).
Can I place page numbers at the top of the page?
Yes. Use the vertical position toggle to switch between top and bottom. You can also choose left, center, or right horizontal alignment.
Will this affect existing content on the page?
Page numbers are drawn on top of existing content. If there is text or an image where the number would appear, increase the margin slider to push the number further from the edge.
Can I change the font or color of the numbers?
Currently the tool uses Helvetica in dark gray. You can adjust the font size with the slider.
